2 Penthouses in marylebone...

2-marylebone-penthouses01These two flats were on the top (4th) floor of a block of apartments in Marylebone, in the heart of the West End of London. Planning permission was obtained to put a 5th floor on the block, increasing the size of each flat by approximately 70%

The project involved the construction of a high-ceilinged mansard roof, accessed through a centrally positioned staircase to create the impression that the additional floor had always been there. A substantial roof terrace offering superb views across the city was incorporated into the design.

2-marylebone-penthouses-02While the additional 5th floor was being built, both flats also underwent complete refurbishment. The block was built in 1930 and although it is not classic Art Deco it retains many features typical of that style and period. YDP's redevelopment attempted to retain the 'feel' of the period through the use and replication of original details in mouldings, doors, architraves, light fittings and staircases.

YDP worked with Gareth Bridge at South Bank Architects to create the design and obtain planning consent. It was Gareth’s vision and his development of YDP's original ideas that made the project such a huge success.

energy friendly...

According to the DofE: 'Sustainable development means encouraging economic growth while protecting the environment and improving our quality of life - all without affecting the ability of future generations to do the same.' Dept of Energy

YDP sees sustainable development (SD) within the building industry as key to tackling the linked challenges of climate change, resource use, economic prosperity and social well-being. SD is designed into each of Yellow Door’s projects and it views the stipulations of its Planning Consents as a social responsibility and not a burden. YDP always seeks to exceed statutory requirements in respect of insulation, alternative energy sources and water conservation.
